Production you can't see
Most Kenyan plants track downtime on paper or not at all. When a filling line in Thika stops for 40 minutes a shift, nobody can say why — so nobody can fix it. Live OEE puts a number on every stop, changeover and slow-run.
Cold chain that breaks silently
Kenya's horticulture exports live or die on temperature. A cold room that drifted overnight, a reefer that lost power at the depot — you find out when the consignment is rejected. Continuous monitoring with WhatsApp alerts finds out first.
Water assets scattered across counties
Boreholes, pump stations and reservoirs spread over hundreds of kilometres can't be checked by driving to them. Telemetry brings level, flow, pressure and pump status onto one dashboard — and flags the failure before the tank runs dry.

These constraints are engineering inputs for us, not footnotes:
- Grid reality. Kenya's generation is largely renewable, but distribution-side outages, voltage fluctuation and generator changeovers are routine at industrial sites. Our gateways ride through changeovers on battery buffer and log locally, so OEE and cold-chain records have no gaps.
- Connectivity varies by kilometre. 4G is strong in Nairobi, Thika and Mombasa, but a packhouse outside Naivasha or a borehole in the Rift can sit in a coverage hole. We pick the link per site — 4G, or private LoRaWAN that needs no operator coverage at all — and every device stores and forwards.
- Thin instrumentation support up-country. Sites far from Nairobi can't host fragile equipment. We deploy long-battery-life sensors with remote diagnostics and over-the-air updates, designed for months between physical visits.
- A manufacturing base under pressure to grow. The Kenya Association of Manufacturers spans 14 sectors, yet manufacturing sits around 7% of GDP (7.1% in 2025, KNBS Economic Survey 2026) against the Vision 2030 ambition of 15% — and the special economic zones and county industrial parks meant to close that gap will compete on operational efficiency. Plants that measure OEE, energy and downtime get there first.
- Budgets in shillings, not euros. Deployments start small — one line, one cold store, one borehole cluster — and are priced for East African budgets, with cost bands stated in writing after a remote assessment.

Can industrial IoT work with unstable mobile connectivity in Kenya?
Yes — if devices are designed for it. addanode gateways store readings locally when the mobile network drops and back-fill the platform when the link returns. For sites with no reliable coverage at all, private LoRaWAN needs no mobile operator: sensors talk to your own gateway.
What does IoT monitoring cost in Kenya?
Entry deployments — one production line, one cold store or a small borehole cluster — are priced for East African budgets and quoted with a written cost band after a free remote assessment. You start with the sensors and PLCs you already own, which keeps hardware cost down.
